What if you could tell whether or not a friend were paying attention to you based on the position of his ears?
That’s the idea behind Necomimi, a pair of cat-like ears that track your brain waves and move based on what you’re thinking. The ears are being shown off on the floor of this year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
These ears will perk up when you’re paying attention to something, then relax when you do, lying dormant to each side. When you get excited about something, the ears will wag back and forth, displaying your enthusiasm to the world around you.
How it works?
Necomimi works using a brainwave sensor created by NeuroSky. A sensor on the front of the headset, coupled with a small clip-on sensor on your ear, allows Necomimi to accurately judge your mood, and move the ears accordingly.
Specifically, the sensor on the front of the device measures the electronic impulses coming from your brain, while the ear clip monitors your heart rate. The ears then take those two data points plus a special NeuroSky algorithm to determine your mood and, consequently, what the ears should be doing.
The same brainwave sensor is being used in a number of other mind-controlled gadgets. Most notably, it powers the Puzzlebox Orbit, a remote-controlled helicopter that takes off and lands based on your ability to concentrate on it. Funded by Kickstarter, the mind-controlled helicopter is for sale now for $189.

ReplyDeleteThere are some hot spots in our head where we can track the activity of brain.In the first image you can see a black wire like thing pressing to the forehead of the women..It consists of the brain sensor like the one our neurologists use to test brain activity..It gets that electrical data and is given to the processor shown in second image..Here the mood in the sense it just identifies the activity of the brain when your doing something..The core idea is that brain activity is not similar when you do a work casually and when you do a work with concentration.The duty of sensor is to capture that difference( which causes electrical signal of different characteristics).This is how it works..
