Understanding the MARS launch window and different stages in an Inter-planetary voyage

It has been a month since the Mars Orbiter Mission started its research around the red planet. India has joined the elite group of countries which succeeded in reaching MARS. India astonished the world with its frugal yet successful Mars mission that was never ever thought of.  ISRO has also broken the record of executing this herculean project in mere 15 months duration. So, why did India hurry in making its maiden voyage to our nearest neighbor?? Is it the unreasonable desire to prove its capabilities to the world? The answer is a big NO. The factor that made ISRO to execute this mission at a faster rate is the space dynamics. Earth takes 365 days to revolve around the sun while mars take about 687 days to complete a revolution around the sun. So we can say that a Martian Year (A time period of one year on Mars) is approximately equal to 1.88 Earth years (A time period of one year on earth). So, by the time Mars finishes its one revolution, Earth is already at the verge of completing its second revolution. Also these two planets revolve in the orbits with different orbital characteristics. Mars’s orbit has more eccentricity than that of Earth. To sum up all these points from orbital geometry to the relative dynamics between these two planets we can arrive at a conclusion that these two neighbouring planets come closer to each other every two years and thereby providing a chance for the launch of spacecraft. This time frame in rocket science’s jargon is termed as the LAUNCH WINDOW. It is impractical to launch a spacecraft out of the launch window and if you miss it once you should wait for another 2 years for the arrival of next launch window.

Do you know that your mobile phone can kill you? Let's see How!!

Hello Every one!!!! I Just want to share my personal experience with my mobile phone battery today with all of you!!!
Now-a-days Mobile phone has become a part and parcel of our lives. Keeping aside its basic functionality, we are using it for various purposes. These fancy concept of carrying a phone along with you would have been a fantasy if there were no such things called rechargeable batteries. These batteries made our lives better and brought a lot of flexibility to our lifestyle. This is just one side of a coin. On the other side of it are the gloomy facts, which when neglected may leads to a catastrophic damage. With some discipline in using the batteries and some consciousness, we can avail a lot of benefits and at the same time we can stay away from falling prey to these devices due our negligence and ignorance. With this note I am going to narrate my experience with my mobile phone battery today. In an attempt to take out my SIM card from my old mobile phone which I have kept aside for the  past few months, I found that my mobile phone battery was bulged in the middle. In the mobile phone's jargon this is termed as BLOATING. Every one of us is quite aware of the fact that the batteries used in mobile phones and laptops and almost all the gadgets for that matter, uses
Li ion technology due to its excellent Energy density. Usually due to the electro-chemical reactions taking place inside the cell, gases are released along with some amount of heat. When this heat becomes so intense, the gas formed due to the reaction starts increasing its volume and since the battery is completely packed, it pushes the battery enclosure and appears to be bulged. A battery of this status, when exposed to prolonged power supplies may lead to a blast thereby damaging the gadgets or sometime the intensity may be too high that it may cause a fatality.

Nano Generator - The future

ZL Wang with Nano generator
Today power sector is expanding leaps and bounds to meet the demand due to the modernized lifestyle and also improvement in the living conditions of people around the world. We are so much dependent on electricity that the improvement of living conditions of people can be correlated to their percapita energy consumption. A country’s development can also be judged by the power infrastructure prevailing there. To achieve this, a lot of dedicated research is being carried out to investigate different modes of generating power and also to raise the efficiency of equipment already in operation. Let us forget for a moment about the breakthroughs in the large scale methods of generating power and focus on the portable and easy to adopt technologies that generate power on a lower scale but have a huge impact when it is seen in a global view. Lot of research in the world’s reputed labs are inclined towards giving the power generating capability for every individual so that they can generate part of the power they need by themselves and to some extent become independent of the conventional power that we obtain through transmission lines. To be realistic, we cannot completely rule out the bulk power generating stations from the picture but instead we can reduce our dependency on them. This approach reduces the power consumption from the grid systems and can indirectly reduce the emissions to a smaller extent at the generating station.
Every living organism in this universe needs energy for its survival and human beings are not an exception. We expend a small fraction of energy every second by carrying out minor activity in our day to day life. Can’t we use this energy to generate power on a lower scale? Nano generator is a revolutionary next generation innovation evolved from this idea.
