Hello Every one!!!! I Just want to share my personal experience with my mobile phone battery today with all of you!!!
Now-a-days Mobile phone has become a part and parcel of our lives. Keeping aside its basic functionality, we are using it for various purposes. These fancy concept of carrying a phone along with you would have been a fantasy if there were no such things called rechargeable batteries. These batteries made our lives better and brought a lot of flexibility to our lifestyle. This is just one side of a coin. On the other side of it are the gloomy facts, which when neglected may leads to a catastrophic damage. With some discipline in using the batteries and some consciousness, we can avail a lot of benefits and at the same time we can stay away from falling prey to these devices due our negligence and ignorance. With this note I am going to narrate my experience with my mobile phone battery today. In an attempt to take out my SIM card from my old mobile phone which I have kept aside for the  past few months, I found that my mobile phone battery was bulged in the middle. In the mobile phone's jargon this is termed as BLOATING. Every one of us is quite aware of the fact that the batteries used in mobile phones and laptops and almost all the gadgets for that matter, uses
Li ion technology due to its excellent Energy density. Usually due to the electro-chemical reactions taking place inside the cell, gases are released along with some amount of heat. When this heat becomes so intense, the gas formed due to the reaction starts increasing its volume and since the battery is completely packed, it pushes the battery enclosure and appears to be bulged. A battery of this status, when exposed to prolonged power supplies may lead to a blast thereby damaging the gadgets or sometime the intensity may be too high that it may cause a fatality.
There may be several reasons due to which the battery generates excessive heat but the foremost of all these are:
1) Excessive  Recharging  : Li ion batteries are very much reluctant to excessive charging, which alters the chemical reactions inside the cell and leads to formation of excessive heat.
2) Faulty Chargers : Low quality mobile phone chargers feed unfiltered supplies to the battery and thus lead to this phenomenon.
3) Faulty Design : All the gadgets now-a-days comes equipped with the electronics required to cut of the supply to the batteries when it is charged to its maximum limit. Due to the failure of the electronics, the battery may encounter excessive heat.

Above are the three cardinal reasons among many for the Bloating of the battery charger. Electronics always carries a minute percent of uncertainty with it and thus electronics inside the gadget may fail anytime without your notice. But two of the above said reasons are well under your control.
     1) Never  charge your mobile phone for prolonged period of time (Don't Keep it charged the whole night). Charge it whenever it is necessary. It improves your battery life as well as keeps you safe from these kind of situations.
2)Always use a mobile charger that is supplied with the mobile phone. Using a cheap quality mobile charger puts your life at risk.
    3) When ever you see a battery bulged, never try to puncture it with sharp objects as it leads to an explosion and release of toxic gases.

Symptoms of a Bulged battery :
             1) In case of a mobile phone with removable battery, the rear side cases bulges and sometimes it becomes difficult to open the rear case. When you encounter this situation, try to remove out the battery from the phone without piercing it with any sharp objects. In case of mobile phones with non removable battery, if you suspect the bloating of battery from the expanded rear case, don't try anything simply take your phone to the nearest mobile care.
             2) In case of a laptop the symptom may be a problematic track pad. Due to the swelling in the battery, it pushes up the portion of the laptop containing track pad and makes it inoperable.
Explosion in the battery is not quite common but it is not good to challenge the odds. There is every chance that the bulged battery leads to a fatal explosion. So,its always safe to constantly take a look at your battery status every now and then. Especially when you are using mobile phone after keeping it idle for some period of time, it is highly recommended to check the battery status before using it or recharging it. Keeping these tips in mind and with some consciousness we can avoid the transformation of our mobile phones into deadly explosives.
